Healing Circles and Communication Skill-Building

All of these activities, trainings and gatherings are open to the public. Some are for specific groups and communities. Most of them are free to attend or accept donations. This list will be updated often.

Better Angels is a national citizens' movement to reduce political polarization in the United States by bringing liberals and conservatives together to understand each other beyond stereotypes, forming red/blue community alliances, teaching practical skills for communicating across political differences, and making a strong public argument for depolarization.

Sacramento ACT organizes to create a more just and fair community for everyone in the Sacramento region, with a particular focus on communities of color that have experienced historical discrimination and disinvestment. Our organizing is grounded in the conviction that equity—just and fair inclusion in society—must drive public policy.

The Racial Healing Circles aim to uplift the best practices from the field (Racial Healing Initiative led by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Attitudinal Healing Connection - Oakland).
We will be adopting the Attitudinal Healing Connection's model of defining racism as a life threatening disease. We express that the concept of race is a social and cultural construct. The focus will be on storytelling and narrative change.
This program is funded by the UC Davis Health Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. This collaborative effort is organized by the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center and Center for Reducing Health Disparities.

Safe Black Space Community Healing Circles started in April 2018 in response to increased racial tensions and trauma after the killing of Stephon Clark, an unarmed 22 year old Black man, by the Sacramento Police. Meant to provide a chance for Black people to deal with the rage, shock, fear, and sadness that so many of us were (and are) feeling.
Safe Black Space has mobilized a growing collective of local practitioners, community members and activists, faith leaders, educators and others of African ancestry. This village has been offering Safe Black Space Community Healing Circles on a monthly basis across Sacramento, as well as advocating locally and demanding justice in instances of racism and oppression. First Friday Dialogue on Race: Respectful discourse between white, black, brown people about white privilege and racial issues. Guest speakers often. Facilitated discussion. CSU Sacramento Professor Rashaad Baaqir acts as advisor to this growing gathering.

SURJ is a national network of groups and individuals working to undermine white supremacy and to work toward racial justice. Through community organizing, mobilizing, and education, SURJ moves white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for justice with passion and accountability. Read More

A National Call for Moral Revival is uniting tens of thousands of people across the country to challenge the inequities of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the nation’s morality.
